Bedworth United held to draw with AFC Dunstable

Bedworth United hosted AFC Dunstable this weekend as both teams looked to bounce back from poor results during the week.

Manager Stu Storer made one change from the team that faced Corby, with Sam Walton dropping to the bench and Josh Steel being recalled to the starting 11. Liam Truslove appeared on the bench in place of Cal Templeton.

In a first half of few chances it was Bedworth who had the best opportunities with Dan Green in the Dunstable goal pulling off a reflex save from a Mitch Piggon volley. When Green was actually beaten by a Piggon it was the bar that came to Dunstable’s rescue after a looping header was kept out.

It was from a Bedworth attack though that the deadlock was broken in the 43 minute. A long clearance found Christie who broke free. His scuffed shot wrong footed Crane and the ball trickled into the Bedworth net.

The Greenbacks came out in the second half determined to make amends and it only took two minutes for parity to be restored.

Mitch Piggon picked up the ball turned his marker and drove the ball across the box into the path of Luke Keen who took a touch then dispatched the ball past Green's left hand into the bottom corner of the net.

Bedworth then pressed forward with more attacking intent, hitting the bar again from an Elliott Parrott header off a Mulders corner.

Green again pulled off a top drawer save from a shot from Dawson.

The Greenbacks continued to push forward but lacked that decisive quality in the final third.

Dunstable resorted to playing long balls looking for Christie. Kyle Barnett did well marshalling the dangerous Christie and whenever he did get a shooting chance, Barnett got in the way making essential blocks for Bedworth.

With only a few seconds on the clock, Bedworth had a freekick on the edge of the Dunstable box, but the wall stood firm blocking Truslove’s goal bound effort.

This left the final score at 1-1, a result that neither team really wanted. This result sees Bedworth drop to third in the Southern Central league table behind Aylesbury and Barton Rovers.
